It was at the Kool London 20th birthday party when I first met Wolves. A security guard came up to me and said there was a guy at the front and he had something for me. I asked who he was. ‘Someone called Wolves’ he said, so I said ‘ok let him in please’. A small guy made his way towards me looking shy. We both reached out and shook hands; Wolves! East! We had both got to know each other in Kool London’s chat room over the last couple of years. He seemed like a genuine and nice guy online and when I eventually met him, I could tell he was just that and furthermore a very humble, polite and respectful guy. He passed me a bag and said ‘this is for you’. So I opened the bag and there was a metal piece of artwork; it was a DJ standing at a pair of decks and speakers with a mic playing some tunes. I loved it!! I said ‘what is this for’ and he said 'for 2o years of Kool'. He also said when he first saw it he thought of me and when he listens to my show he can hear music is my life. I told him how honoured I felt, how very happy I was with the gift, that it meant a lot and it was very special to me.
After the Kool London’s birthday we spoke on the phone a couple of times and he sent me a couple of CDs of music he said I would like. When I spoke to him on the phone, I felt that he was a deep and thoughtful person and I remember him saying 'you’re a special person'. I said ‘what do you mean?’ He just said you are! I didn't really know what to say and just said thank you.
It was with great regret that I found out Wolves had recently passed away and is no longer with us. I believe he was in his late 30s. It is really a shock to me and Suzy knowing that he has gone. Why do all the nice people go early?
To everyone out there - sometimes people we know are in a bad place and when we see them we say ‘you okay?’ They may answer 'yer I'm good' but they’re not. We all need to be there for others sometimes, just take some time out and think about other people. They just might need a little chat or some of your time. It’s not a lot but it could go far.
